Mayor Michelle Sandoval at the Chamber Meeting..: )
A bit of melting snow did not stop us…we all went to hear what our Mayor, Ms. Michelle Sandoval, had to share with us.
A full Chamber, was there for the occasion;
Presided by the efficient serenity
of Kim Aldrich…
Dear and powerful voices -such as Scott Wilson’s -the Leader of “The Leader”
– join Michelle’s with news from new plans and destiny for the Fort Worden/Centrum venue…
And dear Teresa Verraes brings the power of her energy back to Town ~ as our new Chamber of Commerce Directress : D…A joy to have her in this Town -and in that capacity!!!
And our extra-ordinary Mayor, Michelle Sandoval, tells us about the Chetzemoka Ferry -and how, at one point it’s very existence became doubtful -at best; and how she had to successfully argument in its favor ~While Whidbey Island will need to create its own ferry (if they and we want 2 ferries on the waters of the Admiralty Inlet waters…
She too reiterates a plan where, by investing some $4’000,000 in the Fort Worden Building 202 -to make it more of a lodging area to support the University Level classes to be imparted from the Fort; the City expects to both, firmly support Fort Warden -after it has lost it’s official revenues.
As well, other more day-to-day themes are mandated now, she tells us: Beginning with the mandate of disinfecting our (mostly) Snow Waters from Quilcene River… to put together entities as PUD and Mobilisa, as to make Port Townsend a “Wireless City”…Where people can go to public places to enjoy their internet connections…
She emphatically supports OUR FUTURE NOW!…hence is a strong advocate of building more quality schools for our children, more parks, and recreation areas (although, she well points, attendants are not necessarily expected to be only the young ; )…Besides, she strongly sees the need of affordable housing for all those young families that constitute that FUTURE we can already sense…
As for the support of tourism ~that we the lodging industry serve, promote and bring back to town, over and over again, Michelle corroborates that if Fort Worden brings in 1/3 of the Bed-Tax money the City perceives…We the Small INN’s represent the other 2/3rds of that Bed-Tax money….And confirms the desire of the City to uphold and support us so we can better serve the industry of tourism in town ~In this respect she mentioned a web reservation system called “Webervations” as a tool our industry would find at its disposal, through the City; and brought her attention to Christina Pivarnik as to up-date us all on the benefits of this City-Tool : )
Fruitful and well attended meeting…
And in closing, I’d say: Thank you, Mayor Sandoval for your dedication and your vision!!!
