Whether it’s bright and sunny -or silver-gray- we’ll en-joy our Port Townsend joy with the Kinetic Sculpture Festival… Where each contraption (invented -and engineered! for this purpose all through the year) must: Be creative (hopefully funny Wo-Man powered…Able to run on land, water, sand and MUD!!! (and they do!!!)

This festival, lovingly initiated by “Peter” Simpson (as present and inspiring throughout it NOW as when he was alive! : )…Yet, today, the festival runs under the foresight and fun loving know-how of some super-women -headed by Janette Force, as Directress-and ultimate responsible…
This here was the entryway to the FREEE!!!! “Peter Simpson Cinema”…
Under the blue skies of Port Townsend, we heard splendid rock’n'roll with the extra-talented and multi-fascetic musician-singer Raven -and his group…Enjoying their performance, NIA dancer and official photographer of the Festival: Jane Champion championing the memory making of it!!! : )
This is happening on Taylor street, where the other FREEE!!!! movies on the hay bails -and under the stars, happen happen every year…Terrific Terry Tennesen -Director of the PTFF himself last year- volunteers as a manager for the Rose theater, this year…and looks into every other detail: In this case, the needs of the splendidly dressed drivers of the special shuttles to the festival ; )And if the women directing the Festival were superb in their cool and organizing powers, the marvelous smiling “husbands” held the fort from the back -and all around- were just as splendid… Cheers for them!...Here, Robert Force, husband of Janette, wearing his badge with the official title of “Trophy Husband”…That cool, or what?
The choice of movies, shorts and documentaries was also splendid -and this is a town of hard core cinephiles… so, it counts! ; )
At the Victorian UpTown theater, Rocky Friedman (owner of the DownTown Victorian Theaters “The Rose” and “The Rose Bud”) interviewed Tom Shadyac…
In the all Port Townsend Spirit, limits of “I own my theatres…YOU are my competitor” are abolished by intelligence and camaraderie… And Rocky is UpTown!!! : )
As well, an international star such as Tom Shadyac , creator of many a movie like “Ace Ventura” -with Jim Carrey- and now creator and presenter of the movie “I Am”, could not be interviewed by someOne more of a kin than Rocky Friedman.
Tom’s movie -and intervention- was totally refreshing, sincere, committed to truth to the “n” potency…
Through his splendid movie, http://iamthedoc.com/ he declares himself a man on a mission of discovery, of communication, of light unabashed?. He finds his present truth, and has the valor of accepting it. Of embracing it. Of living it. Of sharing it…
Yes. Even if it means radically changing his life (or because of it?)
Very enlightend and controversial his point of view.
He could have chosen to follow his star further into Hollywood stardom, writing, directing and producing other movies with Jim Carry -as his first great ticket box hits. Yet, he opted for the other way: the discovery-of-all-as-new way.
Tom Shadyac, in my eyes, with his choice, becomes a hero, in the ranks of Deepak Chopra, and Gandhi and others BIG ones who have chosen to follow their own light. A joy!
This movie “I am” will stay a while in our theaters, since Rocky invited it to be screened at his very own the Rose theater.

Port Townsend opened its warm literary arms wide, to embrace the art -and the person- of David Huerta. One of Mexico’s best poets presently.
The lovely Wheeler Theater, in the Fort Worden park, was full and radiant with incomparable local poetical talents -particularly thrilled knowing that Huerta’s laureated Poetry would be (excellently) translated into English by Mark Schafer.
