Tonight, our friend, Poet Sharon Lia brought “Une Education Manquée” by Chabrier/Milhaud, from the Library. Delight!
It’s part of the “Collection ‘L’Opéra Francais” -by the Théatre Impérial Compiegne. Théatre Francais de la Musique. Pierre Jourdan. (I just write all this because it’s very fun to read it in French…Ha-ha-ha!
But what really matters is to watch the little darling Operetta.
Two questions come up for me…What is more amazing:
How sexy naivete can (has always) be/en?…
How naive passion can be -and still be sexy?
And the music: Absolutely lovely (as the theater, characters and the Interpreters of the characters).
This charming, complex Operetta from Emmanuel Chabrier (1841-1894), and Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) is sooo unique you might not want to miss the experience!…(We are glad we didn’t!)…Thank Ü, Sharon Lia! : )

What a fine surprise this magical, technical, philosophical, cinematographical movie this “Curious Case of Benjamin Button” movie is!
Specially surprising to me because I had admired Cate Blanchet’s acting many a time; but had never seen Brad Pitt act.
My goodness…He embodies this man who was “born under unusual circumstances…”
How would life be if some of us grew old and some of us un-grew young?
How would we perceive ourselves, and how would we see the other group?
Would we have anything to give each other?…To share with each other?…To learn from each other?
What if members of each of the groups were to fall in love with members of the other?
What if they had children amongst them?
How do you tell a story with these and many more questions, in taste, intelligence, amazement, high professional standards?…
Director David Fincher did!
Not to be missed.
We thank our friend, Poet -and cinephile- Don Roberts for the lending… Very enjoyed! : )

Tonight we saw the movie we received in the mail this week -as part of our Spiritual Cinema Circle membership, “The Shift”; with Dr. Wayne Dyer.
The producer is Louise Hay House
This splendid movie, we thought, is VERY intelligent, daring, courageous, heart quenching, beautiful.
Although very complex- non-assuming, and told with such clarity and simplicity, that only genius provides. Again: VERY intelligent story.
Absolutely natural acting by everyone -including the “star” Wayne Dyer, doing his first movie at 68 : )
Impeccable direction by Michael Goorjian.
Ear-catching music.
All subtle, everyday-like – and surprisingly charged with powers movie.
Whether you are a reader -watching a movie- or a cinephile, you probably will consider it a “must see”.

Tonight, the movie Robert brought from the Port Townsend Film Festival Offices is the restored “In a Lonely Place”, with Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame.
Fascinating anecdote involving “Old Hollywood” people. But there’s lots more than that in this splendid black-’n-white.
Tenderness trust and the courage to love -repressed for so long in the heart of a man -with even the last name of “Steele”- start to shyly find nurture and a safe space in the non-judgmental, straight forward, strength and wit of a woman in love with his soul. His troubled soul.
The best and most hidden parts of his nature come to light within the protective space that his unfailing trust -in her trust- offers him.
Only this total trust on the part of the woman he is fully loving, can heal him someday. Can revindicate the monster that lures inside him.
Then, fear bites her mind and devours her love away?
Then, he understands…
No. The monster has not been redeemed.
Wit, smarts, chick in tongue. Contained, alluring, challenging, difficult -easy to judge- and…lose at the game!
No wonder it’s a classic.

Tonight the movie Robert brought home from the Port Townsend Film Festival Office is a documentary:
“In Search of Mozart” the intriguing title…The creator of the film is Phil Grabsky…
He was his own cinematographer!…2 camaras, sometimes. Sometimes 1. Sometimes direct sound, sometimes feeds.
Curiosity, freedom, talent and total love for his project do imprint his work.
Paintings, locations, history, stories, times past and present, music, musicians, operatic figures, all become willing, crucial pieces in this puzzle.
And we join our gazes, minds and hearts, in search of this more real Mozart. And we are rewarded with views not only of his geographical and historical environment, but also of his natural, and genious-like way of composing -since he was 5!…
In this film, we enjoy the revealing points of view by great interpreters of his music. They take us to the profound sadness in the gaiety… the priviledged memory… the endearing feelings… the magnificence in the legacy that we inherit from that expression of genious called “Mozart”.
The gift: Your view of Mozart will feel much better rounded.
