With a delectable selection of local cheese and wine, and good conversation, at Huber’s INN Port Townsend, we celebrate the presence of the Finnwicks.
Marvin Finnwick and his wife, Sandra, came exclusively to take a fishing trip for pros with Capt. Wayne Bibbins -from DOWN HOME CHARTERS.
Sandra says she is “in” just to keep Marvin company…she’s NOT a fisherwoman, herself!…
These trips are meant for very “serious” fisherpeople (to catch VERY -even more serious when they get caught- “serious” fish!
…Just check out the pic on Wayne’s card!
Of course for Marvin this is merely luring… He comes from a line of Nordic Fishermen; and has, himself, been an Alaskan pro for years. Then came to Seattle for even better horizons, and settled there to grow a dear and close together family- that includes 2 cats (and, through grand children: Llamas, price winning pigmy-goats, boa, dogs, chicken and yet some more! ; )
One of the Finswick Kitties, enjoys a good warm shower on the sink, being toweled and hair dryer dry…groomed, petted, shown around, to travel in the car, to visit with friends!…
The Finswicks assume this cat must have been a “show cat” previously. This amazing Kitty was left behind by former “masters” -and adopted lovingly by the Finnwicks ♥
Both Marvin and his wife plan to visit us in Port Townsend again in December, when they’ll invite the rest of their family…No. Maybe not the four legged members, the poultry -or the young boa! ;D
We much look forward to spending some more time with them : )
Being Tim’s birthday, Robert Huber presented their breakfast table with his special “Carved Pineapple” – after we all had sung the “H.A.P.P.Y.” song with gusto!
For him an Impressionist version of the view from the INN’s windows -with the 2 swans that have graced our lagoon this year!
(And since the PT Kinetic Festival is coming next month… to further celebrate, we promise you a pic/video of the P.T. Kinetic Sculpture Parade here pretty soon! ; )

At the Huber’s INN morning table, Ida and Caitlin, bring true friendship into their natural Auntie-Niece relationship!.
It’s lovely that they chose our Port Townsend to celebrate that frienship with a “gold closure” -after their trip from the Takoma area to the west side of the Olympic Peninsula, aiming for Forks, in Jefferson County, WA.
In Forks, the idea was to personally see the “Twilight” places that good looking vampires!…and Bella Swans’ do prefer..
We much en-joyed meeting them : )

Master Poet Christopher Herold presides the creative table. J.J., poet and artist, and Carol sit by his left…
Creativity and form find a most conscious balance in this ancient art of Renky Poetry. Lots to ask and consult with each other…
Verbal, and literary consultations are required and welcome. Here Master Karma Tenzing Wangchuk is finding pertinent information…
EveryOne is envolved…
Suggestions and ideas are invited to freedom -curiosly possible within a most strict set of rules, favoring novelty, quality, variety, and mostly, awareness…
The group is open and welcoming. It gathers once every month, and fosters the most delightful society, and fun…
Friendship, food, drink and colaboration are the norm…
Interestingly, after each Poetry stanza is accomplished and unanimously approved, it is shared as “the new” part of the ongoing Renku Poem…And invariable, the feeling seems delicious to me!
If you are curious and/or interested in contacting this splendid and unique group -which honors the intellect and spirit of Port Townsend with its existence, please ad your comment here with your e-mail. I’ll promptly answer you, and get you in touch with Christopher and Karma Tenzing.
CHEERS FOR RENKU!!!
On going poem of the Port Townsend RENKU Poetry Group:
A SKEIN OF OLD YARN
(an autumn kasen renku)
begun on August 20 at the Huber Inn
Sabaki: Christopher Herold
Jay Haskins, Leticia Huber, Karma Tenzing Wangchuk, Carmi Soifer, Bethel, Jackie Barr, Alison Hedlund, Carol O’Dell, Doris Thurston, Tanya McDonald
1 autumn (Jay)
morning light
dragonflies barely ripple
the lagoon
2 autumn moon (Leticia)
does this warmth
come from you, O moon?
3 autumn (Tenzing)
the scarecrow’s
lost a button or two
off his coat
4 No Season (Carmi)
my neighbor weaves
a skein of old yarn
5 winter (Bethel)
in his cold hut
the hermit prepares
rosehip tea (Bethel)
6 winter (Jackie)
a rare visitor leaves
footprints in the snow
7 No Season (Alison)
just inside the door
lies an envelope
with a foreign stamp
8 No Season (Jay)
bits of paper protrude
from the eagle’s nest
9 Love (Jackie)
her new bikini
causes his eyes to bug out
and his heart to flutter
10 love (Jackie)
the scent of perfume
wafts from the dryer
11 love (Carol)
as I read my book
I hear her sing a lullaby
to our daughter
12 No Season (Jay)
if clouds could speak
these would whisper
13 summer moon (Doris)
summer moon
swallowed
by the mountain
14 summer (Tanya)
bats begin to swoop
all around the camp
15 No Season (Carol)
three girls
race for the white horse
on the carousel

The Mexican genius of Miguel Covarrubias and Adriana Williams -the Authress who brought his work to public life, “meet” in William James Bookstore, in Down Town Port Townsend
Adriana came to Port Townsend in hopes of finding a locally published poetry book for her beloved -and very gravely sick friend José, in Mexico.
At entering the William James, this book on their front showcase immediately called her attention.
She knows Covarrubias better than the rest of us. This was not the poetry book she was looking for, but she was thrilled to find this other special book.
“An original Covarrubias cover!” She exclaimed delighted.
The book was by Langston Hughes, and “vintage”… but the price was still $300 + dollars! -At William James, which always has such wonderfully discounted prices!
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the little price tag! But Adriana explained to me that due to the original Covarrubias cover of the book it could reach such -and higher prices…
With a little “gulp” she bought this 10th edition book and added it to her collections – only to come to learn that on the internet, an 11th -NOT 10th!- edition of such books sold for $600!!!!!
The most amazing part, to me, is that the extreme increase in price reflected on these books, comes from Adriana’s own work, popularizing Miguel Covarrubias’ splendid collections of art, archeology, anthropology, and museography, as well as architecture, performing arts and most elegant, amazing cartoons -such were his well developed talents and gifts to the world!
Only in Port Townsend genius meets genius soooo easily! : )
